Summary

PowerUp enables you to remotely power up your University-provided PC, bringing it out of a low-power, energy-saving state from any other Internet-connected PC or mobile phone. It is designed to facilitate remote access while furthering the University’s energy-saving goals. It provides access to a list of campus computers you’re known to be associated with for easier configuration, but it can also be configured manually. Note: Requires VPN access and two-factor authentication.

Latest Update May 2021

Objective

PowerUp enables eco-friendly power management policies by making it possible for users to remotely power up their machines whenever needed.

Solution

By relying on campus databases of user-computer associations, PowerUp enables a user to find their machine and, using stored or user-entered network information, to power it up remotely using Wake-on-LAN (WOL) broadcasts, even after a power management policy has placed it into a power-saving state.
